What is rate?
Consonant sounds that have no vibration in the vocal folds

to stop action; to omit
What is Cut?
This is any specific action (other than changing location) performed on the stage, such as picking up a book or turning on a television set
What is stage business?
This occurs when vowel sounds are diverted from the oral cavity into the nasal cavities, cutting down resonance and leaving the voice flat
What is Nasality?
Variety in pitch
What is inflection?
an acting role with very few lines, a piece of stage business in one scene
What is a bit part?
getting behind furniture or other actors so that you cannot be seen by the audience
What is Blocking yourself?
results from continuously speaking on one level, and is considered a flaw in speaking
What is Monotone?
the relative highness or lowness of the voice at any given time
What is Pitch?
This requires using the correct vowel and consonant sounds in words, and placing the accent on the proper syllables
What is pronunciation?
to break into the speech of another character
What is Cut in?
to obstruct the view of the audience; use of ad-lib to cover an unexpected, unwanted event during a performance
What is Cover?
using dramatic devices such as increased tempo, volume, and emphasis to bring a scene to a climax
What is Building a scene?
A vowel sound in an unstressed syllable that is pronounced as a soft “uh”. It may be spelled by any vowel letter or combination of letters
What is a schwa?
This word means the selection and pronunciation of words and their combination in speech
the last words, action, or technical effect that immediately precedes any line or business; a stage signal
What is a Cue?
Waiting for the audience to quiet down after a funny line or scene
What is holding for laughs?
As a technical term, placing furnishings, pictures, and similar items to complete and balance a set; keeping the stage picture balanced during the action
