The Enabling Act is the law that one must ask Congress for in order to become a state. December 11, 1816
What was the Treaty of Greenville?
This treaty was created after the Battle of Fallen Timbers. It gave the US most of Ohio and Indiana. Little Turtle signed the treaty.

The New Purchase was a treaty with the Native Am's to give up their land in the IN Territory. The received salt, money, and tools for the land. Jon. Jennings created it.
Why was the Declaration of Independence written?
The colonists were angry about the taxes, they wanted a say in the government, they wanted their independence from British rule.

George Rogers Clark and his men.

The Ordinance of 1784 -land divided into districts-later states. Ordinance of 1785 - Grid of squares, townships, 36 sections Ordinance of 1787 - Rules for creating states.

It was built from Maryland to Illinois. It runs from east to west.
Describe the Indian Removal Act. Which president had the authority to use it?
The Act forced Native Americans to move from their lands in the north and be placed in western states. Andrew Jackson was the president that could use it.
Who led the colonists in the American Revolution and how long did it last?
George Washington led the Continental Army for the colonists and the Am Revolution lasted 6 years.
What did George Rogers Clark do to defeat the British at Vincennes. Include at least 3 things.
1. Enlisted 175 men.
2. Led a surprise attach during the winter
3. Marched and waved flags back and forth on a hillside.
4. The men fought so well Hamilton surrendered.
Who fought in the Battle of Fallen Timbers? How did they win?
Little Turtle and other Native Am groups fought Anthony Wayne. Wayne waited 3 days, Indians fasted and were weak. Lasted less than 2 hours.
Why were canals so important to Indiana at first? What changed the importance of canals?
Canals connected lakes to rivers. Farmers thought canals would help them sell crops. Railroads were faster, cheaper and easier to build than canals.
What was the Trail of Death? What happened as a result?
The Trail of Death was when the US military forced 800 Native Americans to move west on reservations. More than 40 died, mostly women and children. It became known as the Trail of Death.
What groups of people helped the colonists win the Am Revolution? Which battle ended the war in 1781?
France, African Americans and women helped in the war. The Battle of Yorktown ended the war.
What did the Indiana government do for Clark and his men for their contributions to the Am Revolution?
The US government gave Clark and his men land in the Southern part of Indiana. That area is was also named after him. The town of Clarksville.
Describe the Indiana Territory? Who was the territorial governor? Where was it located?
The IN Territory was a smaller amount of land than the Northwest Territory, Will Henry Harrison - Gov. Located in Vincennes.
Describe how supply and demand work.
Supply is the amount that farmers (people) have to sell. Demand is the amount of crops or goods people want to buy.
What happened in IN to cause it to write a new constitution in 1850?
IN built more railroads, canals and roads to connect cities together. Had to borrow $10 million. IN could not pay its debt. Work stopped on all transportation. IN could no longer borrow money.
