How did the Wampanoag Indians and the Pilgrims at Plymouth cooperate/work together?
The Wampanoag Indians and the Pilgrims at Plymouth learned to cooperate and help each other survive.
When the Pilgrims first arrived, they didn’t know how to live in the new land. Many of them were sick and didn’t have enough food. The Wampanoag people, led by Chief Massasoit, decided to help them.
A Wampanoag man named Squanto taught the Pilgrims how to plant corn, beans, and squash, catch fish and eels, and use fish to fertilize the soil.
In return, the Pilgrims and Wampanoag made a peace agreement (treaty) promising to protect and not harm each other. They shared food, traded goods, and celebrated the first Thanksgiving together after the Pilgrims’ first good harvest.
Their cooperation helped both groups stay safe and build a friendly relationship for many years.
