Explain how producers, consumers, and decomposers all help an ecosystem support the population within it.
Producers turn sunlight into energy that is used in the ecosystem. Consumers eat producers and help keep local population from getting too large. Decomposers break down dead organisms and wastes into materials that can be used again by other organisms in the ecosystem.

* How is each population in the food chain affected if humans start using large amounts of pesticides in nearby areas?
Pesticides reduce the grasshopper population. The remaining grasshoppers have less competition for food and the trees would grow more because there would be fewer grasshoppers eating them. With fewer grasshoppers, lizards, would have more competition for food and some might die. The same would then happen for birds that eat lizards, and then for foxes that eat birds.
