How do erosion and deposition work together using running water.  (verbal answer, now written)

water runs down the side of a hill or mountain.  As it moves it picks up bits of rock/soil. Erodes land.  Than water slows down it goes into larger bodies of water.  it drops off rocks and soil picked up before.  Causes new land to build up.
