Describe the battle of Saratoga.
In August American soldiers were led by Benedict Arnold and stopped St. Leger at Fort Stanwix, New York. In July American General Burgoyne captured Fort Ticonderoga. He was in need of supplies after they captured the fort. A local militia group called the Green Mountain boys defeated them. Burgoyne retreated to Saratoga. Back in Philadelphia Burgoyne was surrounded by General Horatio. On October 17, 1777, General Burgoyne surrendered.
