What is the crust of Earth?

Layer of rock on Earth's outer surface

100

Define erosion

Water, ice, gravity, and wind working together to move weathered pieces of rocks

100

What kind of volcano is Kilauea?

Active Volcano

200

Give me 2 examples of landforms

Mountain, Hill, Plateau, Plain, Volcano, Canyon, and Valley

200

Does deposition happen slowly or happen very fast?

Both

200

What is the difference between magma and lava?

Magma - inside of the volcano, lava - outside of the volcano

300

Define weathering

Rocks in Earth's crust that are slowly being broken into smaller pieces

300

List 3 things that cause both erosion and deposition?

Water, Wind, Gravity

300
Explain the shake we feel during an earthquake.

The shake comes from rocks breaking because the plates put too much pressure on the rocks

400

What are the 5 causes of weathering?

Water, ice, temperature changes, chemicals, and living things

400

What is one way to prevent avalanches?

Clearing away snow before too much builds up.

400

List 3 things that is the effect of an earthquake and volcano.

Tsunamis, blocking of sunlight because of ashes, damaging of broken gas lines, buildings, roads, and bridges

500

Why do cracks in rocks get larger because water has frozen in there?

Ice in rock takes up more space than water, so ice forces the sides of the crack outward. The crack goes deeper into the rock and gets later when the process is repeated.

500

Why is erosion and deposition more likely to happen when land does not have other trees or plants?

There is nothing to stop wind and water from eroding rocks and soil

500

Explain the difference between violent eruptions and quiet eruptions

violent - pressure from gasses build up and thick magma bursts

quiet - slower and thinner moving magma oozes out of the volcano
