Font

Ascender

One that is attached to text and moves with it.
Balance
A design principle in which the weight of elements is distributed in a visually appealing way.
Gutter
The white space between columns on a page.
Alignment
How a line of text or a paragraph is positioned in a column: flush left, flush right, centered, or justified.
Descender
The part of a lowercase letter that extends below the baseline, as in the letter"y."
Floating Graphic
A graphic that can be moved around on a page independently of text.
Text Wrapping
A feature that controls how text flows around a graphic or other object in a layout.
Layout
The arrangement on a page of all the key elements without regard to the specific content.
Curly quotes
Rounded marks used for quotations and apostrophes.
Rights Managed
A type of licensing agreement that gives a buyer permission for a specific, limited use of a copyrighted image.
Screen Capture
A digital raster image of visible screen content; a snapshot of a computer screen generated by the operating system or other dedicated software.
Bleed
An element that extends through a margin and off the edge of a printed page.
Master Pages
Page designs that can be applied automatically to any page within a document.
Kerning
Adjusting the space between two characters to improve appearance and readability.
Baseline
The imaginary line on which the typeface sits.
Linked Graphic
Graphic appearing in a layout as a low resolution screen image, but all of its data remains in the individual image file rather than being incorporated into the layout file.
Stock Photo
An image produced and sold by a professional for use by the general public.
White Space
