The boiling point of acetone is about 56°. Is this a physical or chemical property?

Physical Property

100

What is the chemical symbol for Helium? (case-sensitive)

He

100

Is chex mix an example of a mixture or solution?

Mixture - each substance keeps its own properties and can be easily separated

100

What is the formula for the conservation of mass?

Mass of reactants = Mass of products

100

Which state of matter is the only one to hold its own shape instead of taking the shape of the container it's being held in?

Solid

200

Alcohol is flammable. Is this a physical or chemical property?

Chemical property

200

What is the atomic number AND relative atomic mass of Magnesium? You must correctly indicate which number is which.

Atomic Number - 12

Relative Atomic Mass - 24.31

200

Is lemonade a mixture or solution?

Solution - the composition is the same throughout; the particles dissolve without seeing the dissolved particles

200

100 grams of reactant A combines with 200 grams of reactant B to create product C. Find the mass of product C.

300 grams

200

Which state of matter has particles that are the furthest apart compared to the other 2 states?

Gas

300

An ice cube fell on the floor while I was filling my water bottle. It melted all over the floor. Is this a physical or chemical change?

Physical Change

On which period(s) would you find lanthanides?
Period 6
300

Is coffee a homogeneous or heterogeneous mixture?

Homogeneous

300

In a reaction, 25 grams of C breaks down to become 10 grams of product A and how many grams of product B?

15

Draw 3 pictures modeling what a solid, liquid, and gas would look like in a container.

(Mrs. Baker will draw this for you.)

400

Officer Baker likes scrambled eggs. Is scrambling eggs a physical or chemical change?

Chemical Change

400

If you were insulating electrical wires, would you be more likely to use a metal, metalloid, or nonmetal?

nonmetal - they are poor conductors, which would prevent electricity from leaving the wire where we don't want it to

400

Is salad a homogeneous or heterogeneous mixture?

Heterogeneous

400

When 224.4 g of KOH reacts with 88.0 g of CO2, 36.0 g of H2O and an unknown amount of K2CO3 are created. How much K2COis created?

276.4 g of K2CO3

400

Is Na2CO3 an element or compound?

Compound - it contains more than one element

500

What is the main difference between physical and chemical changes?

In chemical changes, bonds between atoms are broken and/or reformed. In physical changes, this does not happen.

500

List all groups that contain nonmetals.

Groups 14, 15, 16, 17, & 18

500

Describe the difference between homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures.

Homogeneous mixtures look the the same throughout the mixture whereas heterogeneous mixtures do not. If you took a small sample from anywhere in a homogeneous mixture, it would be the exact same. If you took a sample from multiple pieces in a heterogeneous mixture, you would likely have a very different composition.

A log is burned in a fire pit. It seems as though the log has disappeared. Have the atoms from the log been destroyed? Explain why you think your answer is correct.

No, the atoms have not been destroyed. They have only changed form. The log has been turned into ash, gas, and water vapor. The total mass of all those things from the log added together would equal the mass of the log before it was burned.
