What are the life saving rules?
This is the process for avoiding thinking traps: Breathe, Energize, Talk it out, Advise, Test.
What is the BETA Test?
The highest level of respiratory, skin, and eye protection. Minimum required PPE is the appropriate chemsuit for protection against the hazards of the released material, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, SCBA (60 minute pack preferred/30 minute minimum required), outer and inner protective gloves, boots or shoes with steel toes. This level of protection is generally used for entry into the hot zone (greater than the Permissible Exposure Limit <PEL>).
GSM4.17.10
What is level A?
Until this is heard, all drivers shall pull vehicles to the side of the road and turn off the engine. Permission, by supervision, to move must include a safe route to take to avoid the emergency scene and open ditch areas affected by the emergency. The exception to this requirement is Alarm 63 or 67 High CO in the plant or DuPont air allows vehicles to proceed with caution. (GSM 4.02)
What is the all clear?
These steps ensure that an adequate seal is achieved each time a respirator is worn. There are two methods in which to complete this task, a negative pressure check and a positive pressure check. (Both described in GSM 5-02)
What is a user seal check?
These are the storage locations for this item: Medical Office, Administration Building- #2 Conference Room, Ambulance, Freon Building- 1st Floor Bathroom, Freon Building- 2nd Floor ECR, Freon Building- Inside stairwell- 3.5 Floor, 48 Spots Changing Room, -52 ECR, Engineering Lab, Main Gate (Go-Bag).
What is topical calcium gluconate? (HF supplies)
This state of functioning include: Automatic. Unconscious. Effortless. Routine. Intuitive/Habit-driven, Emotional/reactive responses
What is fast brain?
A lower level of respiratory protection and low potential for skin contact causing adverse effects. Minimum required PPE, is a full face or half mask respirator with air purifying cartridge approved for the material contaminating the atmosphere, full acid suit with acid hood and steel toed acid boots, outer and inner gloves. This may only be used if air monitoring indicates that a reduction to this level of PPE can adequately protect the responder.
What is Level C?
What is a fire alarm? (GSM 4.02)
This equipment shall be used at heights greater than or equal to 6 ft as measured from the workers’ feet to the next lower level when there is no physical protection available (e.g. a guardrail system). (GSM 5-10)
What is fall arrest equipment? (Harness)
Contact with this current causes muscles to contract. Muscles will relax only after the current flow is stopped. Once the pumping action of the heart stops, defibrillation is generally necessary to restart the pumping action. When a person is in contact with this energy source and cannot let go, the person’s body is an energized conductor. Touching the victim is the same as touching an energized conductor. If a second person contacts the victim, the second person will receive a shock to the same degree as the victim. (GSM10-05)
What is electrical current?
Breathe. Energize. Gaze Around. Intensify Focus. Notice broadly and deeply.
What is the BEGIN Strategy?
The highest level of respiratory protection and low potential for skin contact with the contaminant. Minimum required PPE, for this level, is a full acid suit with acid hood and steel toed acid boots, outer and inner gloves, SCBA or positive pressure supplied air (plant breathing air) to respirator with a SKA escape pack. This level of protection is generally used for entry into the warm zone (contaminated atmosphere less than the PEL) or in atmospheres containing less than 19.5% oxygen.
What is level B?
When this doorbell alarm is sounded the Main Gate will announce situation/areas. You should take shelter immediately, lock doors and turn out lights.
What is the intruder alarm?
These energy sources that would not be expected to cause injury to unprotected personnel. The following are considered to be nonhazardous and do not require lockout: 50-volt AC or 100 volt DC to ground or less, Water, plant air, instrument air, breathing air, nitrogen, and lubricants if all of the following conditions are met:
1) the pressure is less than 25 psig
2) the temperature is less than 60°C (140°F)
(GSM 7-03)
What are non-hazardous energy sources?
These materials pose a threat to human health and/or environment or materials which are designated hazardous by local, national, or regional legislation.
Hot or Cold Materials – materials which cause thermal burns or frostbite. This could include materials above 140°F (60°C) or extremely cold materials, colder than 14°F (-10°C).
Corrosives – materials such as acids and caustics, which cause chemical burns.
Toxic Materials – materials, which can cause illness if ingested, absorbed through the skin or inhaled.
Pressurized Materials – materials that by nature are non-hazardous but can be hazardous when under pressure.
Flammables – any, material classified in the PPE Table as a flammable or combustible.
Strong Irritants – a Strong Irritant requires a Line Break Permit along with PPE listed on the table.
Asphyxiants – nitrogen and other gases such as argon, carbon monoxide, and helium which can displace oxygen in the atmosphere leading to unconsciousness and death. (GSM 7-02)
What are hazardous substances?
Breathe & Energize, Set the Goal, Use Safety Tools, Remove Distractions, Ensure Precision.
What is the BE SURE Strategy?
This procedure specifies the minimum protective equipment required for safely performing various operating tasks where contact with process chemicals is possible.
What is GSM 5-15?
This alarm is required when a fire alarm or gas alarm response is of such magnitude that it cannot be controlled by area personnel. It is indicated by a one-minute alternating tone on the alarm speakers. This can only be activated by the Incident Commander.
What is a Major Emergency Alarm? (GSM 4.02)
A reportable release consists of any release of a regulated hazardous substance, EHS*, hazmat, petroleum product, or other pollutant to the environment in an amount or concentration that exceeds either its Reportable Quantity (RQ*) or a permit limit. “Immediate notification” of a reportable release must be made within this amount of time to designated regulatory and emergency response agencies. (GSM 4.05)
What is 15 minutes?
This procedure identifies the safety rules and procedures that apply plantwide including the following: Wash hands and face before eating. Recommending that each employee take a shower and change clothes before leaving the plant if they have been exposed to hazardous materials. When showering, wear shower clogs and do not use any glass containers. Use soaps or cleaners provided. Drink bottled water only from approved water dispensers. ETC,.
