What's the difference between a Radical and a Stroke?
Chinese radicals are components of Chinese characters that carry meaning and help to distinguish one character from another.
人 “man” → 亻 on the left (used in 你 – you and 他 – he)
Stroke in Chinese refers to a stroke of the pen. Each Chinese character is made up of different strokes, and every time you lift up your pen and start to write again, you are starting a new stroke. Although there are tens of thousands of Chinese characters, there are only six basic strokes:
“┼”: horizontal stroke (from left to right)
“ㄧ”: vertical stroke (from top to bottom)
