Explain:
Why might some passages of the Bible initially seem 'contradictory?' One person says this, another says that.
Nonbelievers typically take passages out of context. They fail to acknowledge variations in point of view, translation/cultural contexts, intended audiences, or the use of metaphors. They often take things very literally, with no room for interpretation.
For example, one Gospel said there was one angel at the tomb, but another said there were two - both accounts can exist at the same time!
Biblical writers frequently report events in ways that serve their specific audience and purpose. Detailed accounts in one Gospel do not invalidate shorter or differently focused accounts in another.
Our moral conscience comes from God. How does this prove His existence? Explain.
Hint: We have objective moral values - we know right from wrong, and good from evil. Where does this come from? Why?
Without God, there would be no objective moral value. This means that there would be no reference for what is 'good' and what is 'evil.' Everyone would do what is right or wrong in their own eyes.
HOWEVER, we DO understand the difference between good and evil. Everyone understands that murder is wrong, and that caring for the poor is right. God is the source of these moral values. Think about it, who or what else would be the source? Governments? Cultural traditions? Out of thin air? None of that sounds right...
Our moral instinct - that feeling of knowing right from wrong - MUST come from some higher power who is perfect, all knowing, all powerful, and the most moral. This must be God!
