Why do we, the Coptic Orthodox church and other eastern orthodox churches, celebrate the birth of Jesus on the 6/7 of January?
We all used to celebrate together on 25 of December because the 29 of Kiahk corresponded to the 25 of December, but then in 1582, Pope Gregory XIII introduced the Gregorian calendar which made some adjustments to the previous one. We didn't change our Coptic calendar so we fell 13 days behind the Gregorian calendar. 13 days added onto the 25 of December gives us 7 of January so now the 29 of Kiahk falls on 7 of January.
