How did industrialization and expanding workforce lead to the creation of Labor Unions?
Industrialization was the shift in our country from mainly an agrarian based economy to one that also manufactures and distributes goods. In order to manufacture and distribute goods many workers are needed. They are needed to build factories, work in factories, distribute goods, and manage the processes. These early industrial workers put in long hours for little pay, worked in unsafe conditions, and had no workers rights. Forming Labor unions gave workers the power of numbers to stand up to their bosses and demand better pay, shorter hours, and more rights. If the demands were not met then a union could go on strike to try and hurt the business owner. Labor Unions were the only way to improve workers lives because the government did little to protect workers in the early day of industrialization.
