Let's get reading!
I have a question!
Communication
Grading and Feedback
Other info!
100

Where do I access course readings and videos?

Videos are in the Modules, and the readings are in the textbook!

100

What if I have a question about course readings or videos?

  • Consult your class buddy.
  • Read all the announcements
  • Post on the 101 Lounge
  • If you still need help, contact Amy
100

What applications will we use this semester?

We will use Padlet, Canvas and Quizlet.

All three of them can be downloaded to your smartphone

100

I have a question about my grade. What do I do?

  • Make sure to read all the comments I've left in the rubric. Check to read the padlet comments as well. Often those help explain your grade.
  • If you have more questions, reach out!
100

Can I take this class Pass/Fail and still get a certificate?

In most cases, yes, but please confirm with your department chair to make sure.

200

When should I have completed my course readings/videos?

Ideally, you'd watch the vidoes and read your chapters before BEFORE we meet virtually or F2F.

You can always re-read the chapter as well, to reinforce learning after the class.

200
What if I'm running late to class?

Ideally, text a classmate to let me know you can also message me!

200

How do I create a good discussion RESPONSE?

First, aim for at least 4-5 sentences when responding, and more than that is even better.

Don't just say, "I like this!" Back up your statements with your ideas and examples.

As a rule, there are three main ways to respond constructively to a post:

  • “Yes, and…(give supporting evidence)”
  • “Yes, but..(give supporting evidence).”
  •  “No, because...(give supporting evidence)”

Evaluate: "I missed a class, so I'll write Amy to see what I missed."

Nope, please don't reach out to me first.

Instead,

  • Ask your a class buddy

  • READ the assignment and ALL the announcements: I summarize well.

  • WATCH all the content I've uploaded in the modules: including the recorded videos and Zooms (if there is one)

  • Last but not least, reach out to me if you don't get the answers you seek.

I only have a mobile smartphone to connect to CityZoom. What can I do?

It's listed on assignment. Most are due on Wednesday morning at 9:00 am

300

Do I need to upload EVERYTHING to Canvas AND Padlet, even if we meet F2F?

Yes, please upload EVERYTHING to CANVAS and PADLET by 9am (or the time posted) when the assignment is due!

300

What days are the discussions due?

As of now:

The first post is due on Wednesdays @ 11:59pm, the response post is due on Sundays @11:59pm

300

Can I get an EXTENSION?

  • I will give an extension of one day if you ask 48 hours in advance Canvas.
  • One day is 24 hours (so if it's due at 9am on Wed, I'll give you till 9am on Thurs).
  • If not Canvas  automatically takes 10% per day.
  • An assignment is marked late right after the due time (i.e. if it's due at 9am, it's late at 9:01 am).
  • Work may be submitted early, but make sure to include everything that is required.
  • You MAY re-upload your work to the assignment page before it's due. It doesn't show on Canvas, but I see it on my end.

CCSF has how many campus locations?

11!

Evaluate: "I can totally do fine in class without doing the readings or watching the videos!"

Ummm, Nope! Really, watch the videos, and read the required textbook chapters.

400

When & where are the exams and quizzes?

Midterm:  Will take place in the middle of the semester. Check for date on Syllabus.

Quizzes - are to help you learn vocabulary. They are low points and located in Modules.

Final - no final exam; just a required final project.
Last day of class.

400

Do I really have to participate in the online forums?

Yes. It creates a strong community, helps you formulate ideas and use design vocab and it's part of the 20% participation grade.

400

Are all points equal in this class? For example, Is a point in an assignment the same as a point for a quiz?

NO! No matter what the points add up to, they will be weighted according to these percentages:

Assignments -  65% of grade

Participation - 20% of grade

Quizzes - 5% of grade

Midterm - 10% of grade

Rams food cards for eligible students:

Batmale Hall, (the ugly apartment building thing next to the Visual Arts building) has vending machines!

500

How can I read and retain all that information?

You DO NOT need to memorize the text word for word.

The idea is to learn the basic vocabulary in each module.

  • Active reading: Look at the images and examples to retain ideas.

  • Active reading: Try incentives: 20 minutes read, 5 minutes break.

500

If I can't access a reading on Canvas, or if Canvas isn't loading properly, who will help me?

If it's a broken link, reach out to me, but if something is glitchy, reach out to Canvas! I have all the information located in the Online Learning section of Module 0.

500

Amy will answer canvas messages how quickly?

I aim to respond to student messages within in 48 hours.

500

Can I redo a project?

No. Once you have uploaded the project and the project date has past, I won't be able to regrade it.

You CAN upload late work, but Canvas will take off 10% a day.
