The federal income tax is established.

The power of government rests with the people.

Establishes the implied powers of Congress.

Amendment strengthened by the decision in Map v Ohio

Issue that the 3/5ths Compromise resolved?
How would slaves count towards representation and taxation.

Limits the power of the majority to oppress the minority.
What is individual (minority) rights?
States that the laws of the federal government and the Constitution are the highest power.
What is the Supremacy Clause?
Being tried for the same crime twice.
What is double jeopardy?
Determined that the Federal government could regulate trade but could not tax exports.
What is the Commerce and Slave Trade Compromise?
Defined citizenship and reaffirmed the right to due process.
