No.  If the Defendant is only objecting to a Magistrate hearing the case, the case is moved to a civil courtroom for a Judge to rule on.  However, the case must still follow all of the Small Claims Rules, statutes and other limitations.

If an individual petitioning for a name change has a prior felony, are they required to submit anything else to Denver County Court in addition to CBI & FBI criminal history reports?

Yes.  An individual with a prior felony must notify the District Attorney's Offices in the districts where the felony convictions or adjudications occurred that they are seeking a name change.  Copies of those letters along with proof of mailing (certified mail) will be reviewed by the judge before granting the name change.

What is the primary difference between a Criminal and a Civil Protection Order?

Criminal Protection Orders are in effect for the duration of a criminal case.

Civil Protection Orders are in effect until one of the parties successfully petitions the court for cancellation or modification.
