Describe what the South looked like postwar (right after the Civil War) and then what it looked like after Reconstruction.
Postwar: South was crippled. Economy in state of collapse. Land value fell, Confederate money was worthless, 2/3 transportation systems no longer worked, slaves were free After Reconstruction: Economy grows. South begins to get manufacturing. White supremacy group KKK is created and focuses on stopping African Americans from exercising their rights. Democrats come to power once again and take back the South. New system of sharecropping and tenant farming appears.

1) Repealed the Missouri Compromise 2) Split territory into Kansas and Nebraska and allowed them to choose free or slave state with popular sovereignty 3) Nebraska free state and Kansas fighting over if it would be a slave state. Led to Bleeding Kansas which started turmoil between the North and South. Lincoln then runs for President and then South Carolina secedes right after.
