First, the Mexican border at Texas was opened up for the Americans to move in and establish, but since the Mexican President Santa Anna realized that the Americans were bringing in slaves that was abolished in Mexico, he closed the border and brought troops into Texas. The Americans fought back, but lost the Battle of Alamo. Soon, President Polk sent troops near Texas to provoke a war. A war eventually broke out as expected and ended up with the victory of the American troop. The Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo is then signed.
