The Olmec created the first calendars. How ever, the Mayan's created the better, more sophisticated version. Both could be considered correct.

Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba arrived with 3 ships & 100 men in early 1517. Returned to Cuba - reports prompted the Spanish governor Diego Velasquez to send a larger force back under the command of Hernan Cortes. 1519 - Cortes lands in Tobasco where he learned about the great Aztec Empire from the natives.
