Where should I look to see what to do in the morning?

The whiteboard

100

At what voice level do I line up and walk through the hall?

Level 0/1. We are RESPECTFUL 5th Graders. Other classrooms are learning, and we do not want to disturb them. It is okay to whisper hello to a teacher passing or help a younger student in the hall.

100

What voice level should I be at when Mr. B is teaching?

Level 0

100

What voice level should I use during partner work time/small groups?

Level 1. I want you to be able to engage with your peers, but other groups should not be able to hear your conversation.

100

What voice level should I be at during independent work time?

Level 0

What voice level should I be at in the morning?

Level 1

200

Where should my hands and body be when I am in line?

Our hands should be at our sides, and we should be demonstrating personal space. Think about being in your own Hoola Hoop.

200

What if I want to say something, answer a question, or ask a question?

AWESOME! Please just raise your hand. I want to hear what you have to say, but we cannot have more than one person talking at once.

200

What topics should I be talking about during small group time?

Only the topics on hand. Mr. B will always give instructions during small group time, so it is clear what the expectations are.

200

Where should my eyes be during independent work time?

My eyes should be on my own paper during this time. This time is for me to show what I know!

300

I finished what Mr. B put on the board. What should I do now?

Read, write, or draw

300

What are the 2 possible consequences if we cannot demonstrate classroom expectations.

Extra practice on lining up and walking through the halls.

Line order.

300

Sometimes Mr. B wants us to shout out answers, and sometimes raise our hands. How do I know what to do?

Step one is to make sure you are listening to directions. Generally, I will say if I want shout-outs or not. I also give signals! I will raise my hand if I want hands raised, and I will put my hand to my ear if I want shout-outs.

300

Mr. B picked our groups for us, and I would rather be in a different group. What should I do?

We are in the 5th grade. We need to be able to adapt and work with all members of the classroom. ALWAYS be respectful and try your best. Think about it like a birthday gift you are not a fan of. Show appreciation; you do not want to make anyone feel bad.

300

People around me keep talking during independent work time? What should I do?

Hopefully, Mr. B has redirected the individuals talking. If he has not, please try to be a leader first and ask them nicely and respectfully to stop talking. If this does not work, let Mr. B know.

400

What materials should I get out when I come into the classroom in the morning?

Only whatever you need to complete the directions.

400

Does it matter what spot I am in line?

No, it does not matter. The only time your spot really matters is lunch. However, we are going to line up cold lunch first, and then hot lunch.

400

Mr. B loves to do turn-and-talks. What do I do when asked to turn and talk, and then Mr. B wants us all to listen to large group instruction again?

Wrap up your conversation and give all attention to Mr. B. Come back to a level 0 and give Mr. B your eyes and ears.

400

Mr. B is letting us pick our groups. I notice someone I am not really friends with walking around without a group. What should I do?

Invite them to join your group! Joining groups can be a STRESSFUL thing for a ton of us. Be kind, you just may make someone's day.

400

I think I am done with my work. How do I make sure?

Most of the time Mr. B will ask to see the amazing work you completed. Sometimes there is too much work to check at once. Ask yourself: Is this my best work? Is there something I can add to make it better? Am I proud of this work?

500

After this week, how many reminders will I need about the morning routine?

Zero! Everything you need to do will be written on the board :)

500

What should it look like when we are walking down the hall?

We should be walking in a single file line. We should not be in a clump of kids; we should not have huge gaps in our line. Please try your best to walk at a nice pace and keep up with the person in front of you.

500

During large group instruction, Mr. B talks about Attentive Listening. Describe what this means.

Attentive Listening is giving all attention to the speaker. Show you are listening. Eyes on the speaker.

500

My group is not working productively. I want to complete the task at hand, but I do not want the group to get mad at me if I tell on them. What should I do?

First, try to figure it out yourself. Be a leader. I know this can be hard, but this is an awesome life skill that you will need at some point in your life. Be respectful, be kind, and do not blame anyone specific. If you have tried and things are still not working, come talk to Mr. B.

500

What options do I have when I'm done with everything?

This will totally depend on the day, situation, etc. A safe bet if Mr. B forgets to give directions is to open up a free-read book. Most of the time, however, there will be directions on specific activities for early finishers.
