You are in a seat.

Your backpacks are lined up at the lockers.

We do not throw things or run around. This is not recess.

You will work on homework or your reading log.

What are some callbacks/signals we will use in our class to get your attention?

Class, class -> yes, yes.

Repeat my claps.

If I raise my hand, you raise yours and close your mouth.

If you can hear my voice, clap once -> Clap once.

100

What do I do if I have a question, a comment, or a concern?

- If you have a relevant, urgent question and I have not called on you, ask your partner. If your partner does not know or cannot help you, you may raise your hand and wait for Ms. Kass to assist you.

- If you have an irrelevant question, comment, or concern that will not necessarily help you with your assignment or our discussion and I do not get to call on you, you can write your question down on a sticky note. When class is over, you may put your sticky note in your parking lot spot. I will try to answer your question, comment, or concern by the end of the day.

What do I do if I need to see the nurse?

You can raise your hand and ask to see the nurse. You will need to get a nurse form for Ms. Kass to fill out and then sign to bring to the nurse.

Before you leave, you will sign out that you went to the nurse on our Check in/Check out sheet.

Where do I go for early duty?

When you arrive at school each day, you will get breakfast and then drop your backpack off in the hallway outside our classroom.

The classroom with the green frog in front is the early duty classroom.

You will receive a yellow card if you misbehave in early duty. if you cannot behave yourself in early duty and get 3 yellow cards, you will be written up.

200

Can I talk to you in the hallway?

The hallway is not the place to tell me about your weekend, your sports, your family, etc.

I love hearing about your life! The hallway is not the place to tell me.

You can talk to me about your life during recess, in the morning after you pack up, during morning meeting occasionally, and dismissal if you finish your homework.

We are always on voice level 0 in the hallway.

200

What do I do if I need to turn in an absent note?

Put it on the clip outside my door.

300

What do I do when I need to turn in a form, flyer, fundraiser, or something else to you?

Wait for Ms. Kass to ask for forms in the morning. This will happen after announcements and before morning meeting. You should have this ready to hand in on your desk.

Please do not bring forms to me while I am in the hallway, taking attendance, or otherwise engaged. I will ask for them when I need them.

300

How do I act in the bathroom?

There is no playing, socializing, or fighting in the bathroom.

The bathroom is the place to do your business quickly and leave. Any other activities are GROSS!!!!!

Please wash your hands after using the bathroom.

What is considered tattling/snitching?

What is not considered tattling/snitching?

- Anything that does not personally affect you or hurt someone is tattling. You can put your concerns in our tattle box and I will address it when I can.

- When someone does something unsafe to themselves or others, when someone threatens you, when someone hurts you or puts their hands on you, when someone says something very unkind to you, that is not snitching. Come and tell a teacher right away.

We will not call people snitches in this class. I don't think that's a respectful way to talk to each other.

300

How do I use the tattle box?

If you see someone not following the rules but it does not affect you, you can put a concern in the tattle box. You can also use this box to let me know about any other comments about our classroom environment.

300

What should my first step be if someone says or does something hurtful to me?

- Remove yourself from the situation and get an adult for help if you need it.

- If someone says you are mean, that is not the time to get an adult. While this may not be something you want to hear, this is not necessarily an unkind or disrespectful thing to say. Think about yourself. Are you being unkind or mean?

- If someone is physically hurting you or bullying you and calling you ugly names, you need to get an adult.

Sometimes we have recess equipment in the classroom. Can I throw or play with this equipment while it is in here?

No.

My classroom has many valuable things in here that can be broken or hurt playing with equipment meant for the gym or outside. It is best to ignore it until recess time.

400

What do we do for indoor recess?

Indoor recess usually includes board games, card games, a movie, and coloring/drawing.

You will not get on your chrome books during indoor recess.

400

What do I do if I have had a bad morning or night at home and I know I am not in the mood to learn or stay awake?

The most important thing to do is communicate that to me. You can do this by talking to me or writing me a note. If neither of those work for you, we can find another way for you to let me know you are not having a good day.

However, disrespect will not be tolerated. We work on expressing our feelings in a healthy and kind way in my classroom. It's okay to have a bad day; it is not okay to be unkind or disrespectful because you are having a bad day.

We are a team. I will work with you!

400

What is perseverance?

What is productive struggle?

Perseverance is working on something even when it's hard. It means that we are choosing not to give up.

Productive struggle means that you might have gotten an assignment from me that you are struggling with. This may not come easy to you. This might happen a lot. However, did you know that when we struggle and make mistakes is when we learn the MOST? That's why we call it productive struggle. I will never give you an assignment that I don't think you can figure out.

400

Do we have extra credit?

Yes.

The AR points you get will be equal to your extra credit points.

You will have an extra credit project in each subject each 9 weeks.

I will offer NO OTHER extra credit.

500

How do I know what materials I need each day?

It will always be on the board.

Please read from TOP to BOTTOM because they may be different occasionally.

500

What if I finish early?

You can work on your homework if you finish an assignment early.

If you are finished with homework, you can work on AR tests or reading log.

500

What is the order of consequences?

When not following directions/rules in a day:

- Non-verbal warning

- verbal warning

- third warning - discussion/ parent note home.

- 4th warning - lesson over rules/following directions for a portion of recess/homework over rules lesson.

- 5th warning - Lose access to Fun Friday. You will do some practice over skills we learned this week instead of participating in Fun Friday. If not completed, you will use a portion of your recess to complete each day until it is completed. It is easiest to work hard on it during Fun Friday so that you do not lose any additional time.

- 6th warning - Write up. If you reach the 4th warning 3 times in one week, it automatically results in a write up.

500

What is FUN Friday?

- We will complete our tests/classwork/quizzes on Friday, but there will not be a specific lesson.

- When we finish those, we can have FUN Friday. This will mean we spend time playing games as a class building team work and collaboration, leadership, spelling skills, or board games/card games.

- This is dependent on your ability to complete your work for the week. You can only participate if you do not have missing class work, home work, tests, or quizzes and that you have earned it with your behavior.
