When is CTSS Provided?

CTSS is provided to a person under 21: 

- who is still in a dependent situation

-Needs to develop skills and abilities other people their age are typically able to do. 

-A person who is still struggling to deal adequately with emotional regulation, being able to function in a school setting, being able to cope within the structure of their family situation where they are still a dependent, etc.,

What should ARMHS services focus on with adults?

-The ability to live independently

-The ability to set life goals and work toward them as an adult

-The ability to acquire and hold a job

-The ability to take care of others who are dependent upon them

What is Skills Training?

Skills Training is the teaching and practice of specific behavioral skills that have not been developed 

or that can replace maladaptive skills developed due to the emotional disturbance.

 Skills training does not include cognitive or emotional skills worked on in psychotherapy.

CTSS services should be characterized by practice and repitition of skills identified in the treatment plan and CTSS progress notes should reflect this.

How many hours maximum can you work with each client weekly? 

Up to 6 hours.

What methods can help CTSS clients?

- Demonstrating or modeling a skill, prompting a child to complete a skill, 

-Providing feedback or correction on the skill, praising effort accomplishment. 

-Be creative! 

- Progress notes should always reflect treatment plan.

- Managing the symptoms of mental illness 

-Managing a household 

-Planning for employment 

-Pursuing education 

-Re-entering community living after treatment  

-Communicating opinions, thoughts and feelings, or key information with others 

-Discovering and using community resources to get needs met

-Getting outside help to deal with a di?fficult situation

What should be avoided during sessions?

Avoid interventions during CTSS characterized by exploring or processing feelings (although emotion-identification can be a skill)

-Advising or coaching on relationships (although teaching a specific communication skill is appropriate), or other activities that resemble talk therapy.

 All clients MUST have a current treatment plan 

Adults: FA, ITP, LOCUS

Children: CASII, SDQ, WHODAS

What are some things ARMHS is not for? 

ARMHS is NOT…

  • Transportation to appointments (find resources such as medical cab or if it is part of treatment plan)
  • Housekeeping services
  • PCA services
  • Case Management
  • Does not administer medication
