Self-advocacy is saying what we want or need.

Knock on the doors. If someone is inside, politely let them know you need the washroom. (Don't open the door to tell them though!)

Politely stop the waitress before she leaves the table and ask for a Coke!

Politely ask them to keep their voice a bit quieter. Politely excuse yourself to another table if you need to.

You're in a group chat with your friends and they start teasing somebody who is not in the group chat. You don't think it is funny that they are making fun of your friend. How can you advocate for yourself?

Set a boundary with your friends. Explain that you will not talk bad about somebody else. Leave the group chat if it does not stop. Tell a trusted adult if you need help.

You are having a picnic at the park with a friend when some kids start making fun of you and teasing you and your friend. How can you advocate for yourself?

Ask the kids politely to please stop.

Move to a different place if they won't stop. 

If you have support or feel comfortable doing it on your own, tell their parents.

We can advocate for others! Once you have practiced advocating for yourself, you will find it easier to help others advocate for what they need as well.

Confidently (and politely!) remind your group leader about your discussion. Ask for a cookie!

Tell your friend that your body is asking for a break. See if you can watch a movie or do something else relaxing together.

Tell your friend you love them but you have to listen to your body for your safety AND theirs. Call your ride to come get you.
