Responsibilities of CMC board committees

Development committee - develop and oversee the implementation of ComMUSICation fundraising strategies.

Governance committee - nominating board members, making recommendations to the Board with respect to governance matters, overseeing the onboarding of new board members, directing Board effectiveness and Board development matters

Finance committee - responsible for recommending financial policies, goals, and budgets that support the mission, values and strategic goals of the organization

Program committee - advise on the development, growth and evaluation of programs

Duty of Care

Actions: Attending meetings, staying informed about the organization's activities and finances, asking critical questions, and making informed decisions. 

Goal: To ensure the prudent management of the organization's assets and activities. 

Duty of Loyalty

Definition: To place the organization's interests above one's own personal or financial interests. 

Actions: Disclosing any conflicts of interest and recusing oneself from decisions where impartiality could be compromised. 

Goal: To avoid self-dealing and ensure decisions benefit the organization, not the individual. 

Duty of Obedience

Definition: To ensure that the organization operates in accordance with its stated mission, governing documents (like bylaws), and applicable laws and regulations. 

Actions: Questioning plans that could lead the organization away from its mission, ensuring legal compliance, and abiding by policies and the purpose for which the organization was established. 

Goal: To keep the organization on course and uphold its core purpose and mission.
