What was the Truman Doctrine?  

 President Truman said that the United States would send aid around the world to help stop the spread of communism. It would support noncommunist governments and people who wanted to protest communism. Under the Truman Doctrine, the United States started to spread its idea of democracy all around the world.

Describe the conflict in Korea.

This region would be controlled by the Soviet Union (North). South Korea was controlled by the United States.

The split was not meant to last long. Over time, North Korea developed a government similar to the Soviet Union. South Korea had a government similar to the United States. 

Each leader wanted the two parts of Korea to rejoin. However, each wanted his style of government to lead the unified country. The United States supported the South Korean government.
