To be eligible for this opportunity program available at public schools, you need to be a New York State resident and meet certain financial requirements

What is a personal statement?
A person that chooses to take less credits for a more flexible schedule or because of familial or financial circumstances
What is a part-time student?
A university funded by the state and government
What is a public university/college?
An undergrad degree that takes about 2 years to earn.
What is an associates degree?
This opportunity program is offered to CUNY's four year schools
What is SEEK?
An optional, short, face-to-face meeting between you and an admissions officer
What is a college interview?
Students get placed into these when their ACT or SAT scores were low when they entered and are used to help them academically
What are remedial classes?
A college focused on a well-rounded curriculum comprising science, history, math, etc.
What is a liberal arts college?
This term is utilized to refer to students who have had relatives such as siblings or parents as alumni.
What is a legacy?
This opportunity program is available at 2 year CUNYs and connects to SEEK once you transfer to a 4 year CUNY
What is College Discovery?
This term is used for when standardized tests are not necessary for the application and has been on the rise due to COVID-19
What is test-optional/SAT - ACT optional?
The term used when a student's GPA falls below 2.0.
What is academic probation?
A university that was founded to educate African-American students
What is a HBCU?
Applicants can go into college as this when they are unsure of what major they want to be in and unsure about what is ahead.
What is going into college undecided?
This program is available for students at private universities to aid economically disadvantaged students
What is HEOP?
This term is used to measure how serious an applicant is about a college; shown by attending college fairs and events
What is demonstrated interest?
Also practiced in secondary school, this unit measures the amount of classes completed by the student.
What are credits?
Non-accredited institutions owned by businesses and uses lots of funds for ads
What is a for-profit colleges/institutions?
A group of courses that combine with your major; does not have to complement the major
What is a minor?
This academic program is only available for associate degree students at CUNY
