Academic Advisor

Minor
This mission-driven not-for-profit organization connects students to college resources and opportunities. It also offers the SAT exam.
College Board
A college admissions test with 3 sections (reading, math, & writing). Scores range from 400-1600.
SAT
The fees for on-campus housing and food from the dining hall.
Room and Board
A student's primary field of study.
Major
Financial aid that doesn't need to be paid back. Given out as wages in exchange for working at a college.
Work Study
This is the percentage of applying students who are accepted into the college or university.
Acceptance Rate
A website where you can apply for admission to any Texas public university and submit your application essays online.
Apply Texas
Form filled out by students and parents/guardians in order to receive financial aid. Based on parent's/guardian's tax information.
FAFSA
A group of relate programs of study within a college. (Ex. Biology, History)
Department
The percentage of a student's financial need that is covered by that school's financial aid package.
Percentage of Need Met
This term means "the percentage of freshman who enroll in classes for their sophomore year at the same university without a lapse in taking classes."
Retention Rate
A college admissions test with 4 sections (English, Math, Reading, & Science). Scores range from 1-36.
ACT
The estimated amount of the cost of attendance that can be paid by a student's family based on information from the FAFSA.

Study Abroad
A group of courses, in varied areas of the arts and sciences, designated by a college as one of the requirements for a degree.
Core Curriculum
This is a totally free resource for any underrepresented student. Students can receive a list of awards and scholarships best suited to them.
College Greenlight
The online application you use to apply for admission to many schools throughout the US.
Common App
Texas's version of the FAFSA. Used for students who do not qualify for Federal Aid, but are residents of Texas.
TASFA
A course that must be taken in preparation for more advanced coursework in a particular field.
Prerequisite
The process a school uses to confirm that the data reported on your FAFSA/TASFA is accurate.
