What are some differences between public and private universities, other than the price tag?
At private schools, you may be required to go to Chapel (like as a class) if the school is affiliated to a religion; Private schools have more strict boy/girl visiting policies (as well as other policies); Private schools are generally much smaller so you get more one-on-one attention with professors; typically easier to get accepted into public schools

What's the difference between a scholarship and a grant?
Scholarships are more merit-based while grants are all need-based

What's a "syllabus?"
The professor gives you a syllabus on the first day of class (or asks you to print one for yourself before the first day)--it's a plan for that entire class and includes the professor's contact info., resources, rules, and what you'll be graded on! It's like the class Bible; if you ask a professor a question that can be answered on the syllabus, he/she will say, "Check the syllabus."

If you want to go to NWACC, do you have to take the COMPASS if you took the ACT? If I still need/want to take the COMPASS, how do I go about doing that? Does it cost money? What are 2 facts about the test?
Nope! (if your scores were high enough on the ACT); Sign up for an available time online, or call to make an appointment, or just show up at NWACC! It costs $10. It's not timed, it's on the computer, it covers Math, Writing, & Reading.

It's the process through which you apply for state aid. You just fill out some information and it will let you know if you qualify for grants and the Academic Challenge Scholarship.

If you sign up to take "15 hours" your first semester of college, what does that even mean? What if you're signed up for 16?
If you're taking 15 hours, that means you're taking 5 classes because each class counts for 3 hours.; If you're signed up for 16, that means you're doing 5 classes and probably also a lab or a seminar class that counts for only 1 hour

How will I know if I get accepted into a school? What do I do then?
The school will send you an email and/or a letter about your acceptance as well as if you need to submit something else to them.; Then, follow their directions! The letter will tell you exactly what your next steps are (like setting up your school's email/online account, then how to sign up for classes, how to contact your adviser, etc.)

1. class discussions that will embarrass the heck out of you if you don't read 2. your work will PILE up and you will not be able to effectively study for the big tests 3. you're paying for that class, so you're literally taking out $300-$1000 and then burning it
