They ruled over a huge territory. GGG = Gold, God and Glory. After Columbus, they came and set up missions to convert the Native Americans to Catholicism. They were obsessed with mining gold and silver. They could be very cruel. They were obsessed with conquering land and territory for Spain, for glory and for God. In the Americas, they didn't really set up any long-term establishments.

They mainly were looking to get rich off of the fur trade. They trapped and hunted beavers and other furry animals because the furs could be made into hats and clothes fashionable in Europe. They worked cooperatively with the Native Americans to get ahead in the game. Sometimes there was even intermarriage.

They were a world power in the 1600s. They were geniuses at trade and business. They set up in New York and mostly worked with the Iroquois to advance in the fur trade. They were quickly taken over by the British colonies.

They really struggled at first. The colonies just had a weak start and couldn't survive harsh winters. Native Americans helped them to survive by showing them how to grow important crops like corn, bean and squash, and ultimately tobacco (which made them rich). The British definitely did not return the favor
