What are the 3 states of matter?
Solid, Liquid, Gas
100
List 3 items that are attracted to magnets
paper clips, screws, nails, etc.
100
Give an example of a mixture
chex mix, trail mix, hamburger, sandwich, salad, etc.
200
Describe a solid, including how it's molecules are arranged.
A solid has a definite shape and its molecules are stuck close together. They don't move around very much.
200
What does soluble mean?
If something is soluble, it will dissolve in a liquid, usually water, to form a solution.
200
Give an example of a solution
koolaid, salt water, sugar water, soap, etc.
300
Describe a liquid, including how its molecules are arranged.
A liquid takes the shape of whatever container it's in, and it's molecules stay together, but move around more freely than in a solid.
300

List 3 physical properties

exs. mass, length, volume, temperature, luster, texture, shape, color, odor, magnetism, state, sink/float.

300
List 3 items that are soluble in water.
salt, sugar, koolaid, chocolate powder, laundry detergent, etc.
400
Describe a gas, including how its molecules are arranged.
A gas spreads as far apart as it can. It takes the shape of whatever container it's in, and its molecules move around very quickly, and try to get as far away from each other as possible.
400

What is the difference between observable properties and measurable properties?

Observable you can use your senses, measurable you have to measure.

400
List 3 things that are not soluble in water
rocks, sand, soil, pepper, people, coins, etc.
500

Water is a liquid, but how could we turn water into a solid and how could we turn it into a gas?

Ex. freezing water turns it into ice (solid) and boiling water turns it into a gas (vapor/steam)

500
How can you tell if something is more or less dense?
If something is more dense, it will sink. If it is less dense, it will float.
500

How can you separate a mixture of water and sand?

By using a sand shaker/screen you can separate the sand from the water.
