This drug is a hormone that can be produced by the human body and is used to treat cardiac arrest by maintaining HR and BP. Also used via IM to treat severe allergic reactions
Epinephrine
This drug is used to treat pulmonary edema, hypertension, & hyperkalemia by inhibiting Na & Cl reabsorption in the kidneys and increasing urinary output
Furosemide/Lasix
This local anaesthetic can also be used to treat ventricular arrhythmias
Lidocaine
This opioid antagonist is injected to reverse the effects of opioids such as CNS and respiratory depression
Narcan/Naloxone
Drug used in cases of cardiogenic shock because it increases the force and rate (at high doses) of contractility in the heart with minimal effects on blood vessels. It is also used in cardiac stress tests for people who cannot use the treadmill
Dobutamine
This drug is used to increase blood pressure in shock patients when fluid administration is unsuccessful
Vasopressin
This injectable bronchodilator reduced bronchospasms in asthma and COPD exacerbations
Theophylline
This is used to treat diabetic ketoacidosis, hypoglycemia, and hyperkalemia (when combined with vit-D and insulin)
Dextrose
This high alert medication increases cardiac output by prolonging the refractory period & increasing the force of contraction, slowing the heart rate.
*DO NOT ADMINISTER IF HR IS LESS THAN 60 BPM*
Digoxin
This sublingual drug is used to treat angina and hypertension by dilating blood vessels
Nitroglycerin
This well known and widely used opioid, derived from the poppy plant, is used in short term management of moderate to severe pain.
Morphine
If injected, this benzodiazepine can be used to stop uncontrolled seizures. It's also used to treat symptoms of alcohol withdrawal
Diazepam/Valium
Drug used to treat sinus bradycardia and can also reduce GI and respiratory secretions by inhibiting the action of acetylcholine in smooth muscles. (Increases HR)
Atropine
This "clot buster" drug is used to treat ischemic stroke, acute MI, and pulmonary embolisms
Alteplase/TPA (tissue plasminogen activator)
This highly potent, synthetic opioid is 100x stronger that morphine and is generally reserved for severe pain or for people with high opioid tolerance
Fentanyl
This corticosteroid can be used via IV or IM in severe allergic reactions to suppress the immune system and reduce inflammation. It can also be used as replacement therapy in adrenal insufficiencies
Methylprednisolone
This drug can be used to cardiovert SVT and help restore normal sinus rhythm by acting on A1 receptors in the AV node to briefly stop the heart. Has a half life of less than 10 seconds
Adenosine
This is the antihypertensive drug of choice used in a hypertensive crisis. It acts directly on venous and arterial smooth muscles to help dilate
Nitroprusside
This NSAID is used for the short-term management of moderate to severe acute pain that requires an analgesic at opioid level
Ketorolac/Toradol
This centrally acting antiemetic antagonizes serotonin 5-HT3 receptors to alleviate nausea and vomiting
Ondansetron/Zofran
