My job is to put out fires and save people from burning buildings. When there is an emergency, I quickly put on my fireproof clothes, jump in the fire truck, and race to the scene.
What is a fire fighter?

I take care of people when they are sick. I also help people to stay healthy. Sometimes I prescribe medicine to help people feel better. I work in an office. I go to the hospital to take care of sick people.

I work in a classroom full of young children. They are lively, but they work hard, and I like helping them learn new things. I teach different subjects every day.

I deliver letters, packages, and magazines. Well before dawn, while everyone is asleep, I’m up collecting mail from the post office. I fill my bag, then go out and deliver letters.

I work every day of the week. I raise sheep for wool and cows for milk. I also grow wheat to make into flour. I get up early and start working as soon as it is light. I feed my animals and plow my fields.

I protect people. When a crime is committed, I interview witnesses and try to find out who to arrest. When there is a car accident, I get the traffic flowing again.

I can work in many places. I can work in a hospital, a doctor's office, or a school. I help people to stay healthy and know how to help them when they are sick. I care for people by making them comfortable in bed and giving them medicine that the doctor has prescribed.

I select and order books for my school library. I know a lot about books, and sometimes I help students pick out books to read. I stamp or scan books when they are borrowed, and return them to the right place on the shelf when they are returned.

I drive a big truck around the city streets. I go from house to house emptying garbage pails into the back of my truck. I press a button and the garbage is crushed so that it is a small package.

I catch fish for people to eat. I drop nets over the sides of my boat to pull in hundreds of fish, and store the fish until I reach land. Sometimes it is rough at sea, but I think the delicious fish is worth it!

I treat people when they have been in an accident. I put them on a stretcher and take them to a hospital.

I help sick animals. I treat cats, dogs, and other small pets in my examining room. If a cow or horse is sick, I go by car to visit it on the farm. Then I give it medicine to help it get well again.

I help to keep the school tidy, safe, and clean. I clean the desks and chalkboards in the classrooms and mop the floors each day. When something breaks or stops working, I repair it.

I fix cars when they break down or are in an accident. I give cars their regular service tuneups, too. At tune-ups, I always check the lights, the brakes, and the fluids (like oil and water), and change worn tires.

I serve food in a restaurant. I set the tables with silverware, plates, and glasses. When customers arrive, I show them to their tables. I give them a menu and take their order. When their food is ready, I bring it.

I drive a vehicle that many people can ride on. I travel to near and far away places. I always drive with caution so that people can reach their destinations safely.

I dispense or give out medicine to people that doctors prescribe. I work in a pharmacy or hospital. I explain to people how and when to take their medicine safely so that they can feel better quickly and stay healthy.

I work in some classrooms along with teachers. I help students to complete assignments or lessons the teacher has taught. Sometimes, I go along with students to other classes to help them there also.

I work alongside builders. I fit water pipes, toilets, and tubs, and connect them to drains. I also clean out blocked pipes. I use a wrench, a hammer and a plunger.

Every morning, bright and early, I go to the market to buy fresh food. Back in a large kitchen, I chop and slice ingredients, preparing everything to make up the meals on a menu.

I put wires that carry electricity around a building or home. I run wires beneath floors or behind walls so that all the lights work. Then I test the circuits to make sure they are safe.

I am a special kind of doctor. I use tools, including scalpels, to operate on patients in the hospital. Patients are given drugs called anesthetics, so they sleep comfortably while I repair the damage inside their bodies.

I am in charge of the school. I make sure that students are following school rules and give out punishments if rules are broken. I help teachers to keep their classrooms running smoothly. I speak to students about events happening at school.

I defend people who have been accused of a crime. I study the case and talk to any witnesses. Then I go to court with my clients. I try to prove my clients’ innocence and keep them out of jail.
What is a lawyer or attorney?

I make bread, and dozens of delicious cookies, and cakes. I always start very early in the morning, so people can buy hot, fresh bread from me when they get up and start their day.
