What does a VNG test measure?

Involuntary eye movements. This is an in-depth analysis of the brain’s control over eye movements, which is a critical brain function to assess when trying to create a treatment plan for a concussion patient

How often should progress evaluations be performed on MMI patients?

After 90 days without treatment, and at least once per year.  As always, whenever clinically indicated.

Can a patient complete cognitive testing with assistance?

No – Defeats the purpose of the testing if they have assistance.

What happens if a patient needs medical clearance prior to surgery, but their PCP will not see them due to the accident?

We will send them externally to a facility such as Health One. This is handled by surgical coordinators, once mid-levels have placed the referral.

When is the patient told the results and the recommendations following a VNG?

The patient is scheduled for a two-week telehealth follow-up to discuss the results of the VNG

Are patients eligible for a reevaluation if they are struggling with therapy?

Yes. A re-evaluation may be used at any time during a patient's care, if it appears that they are not responding well, or responding faster than anticipated, and changes to the care plan are likely to be made as a result of that evaluation.

When a patient with a diagnosed permanent injury and whose apparent progress appears to be ahead of the expected timeline of that injury, a GIC is utilized as a test return to full pre-injury capacity, prior to designating the patient at MMI.
