The three states of matter
What is Solid, Liquid, Gas
ATOM
An organized set of investigation procedures used by scientists.
What is SCIENTIFIC METHOD
Two Units used to measure different objects
What is: Mass and Volume
What is SCIENTIFIC THEORY
True or False: a pencil is an example of a solid.
True
True or False: H2 is an example of an atom.
False: H2 is a Molecule
True or False: Oil and Water DO NOT mix
True
True or False: a bowling ball has much more mass than a basketball
What is TRUE
True or False: Mixing cold water and sugar together in a glass enables the sugar to dissolve quickly
False
Definite shape, molecules packed TIGHTLY together
Made up of two or more atoms?
What is MOLECULE
What is a HYPOTHESIS
What is the amount of matter each individual object contains?
DOUBLE JEOPARDY
What is MASS
What are the characteristics of a gas? (Hint: what are the molecules doing?)
In a gas, the molecules are moving quickly, floating, and bouncing off one another.
What is a GAS
What makes an atom different than a molecule?
An atom is one individual unit
A molecule is two or more atoms bonded together
An educated guess or testable prediction?
DOUBLE JEAPORDY
What is a Hypothesis
What is how much space an individual object takes up?
What is VOLUME
Least to Most: Gas, Liquid, Solid
An example of a substance that can be both a solid, liquid, and a gas? Explain how it can be all three.
What is WATER
Why does sugar dissolve faster in hot water than it does in cold water.
Must use energy in your answer
Hot water contains higher energy molecules which dissolve the sugar much quicker than cold water low energy molecules
Oil has a much less density than water
Water only attracts to other pure substances
Oil molecules are much larger and have a different size and shape.
The state of matter will change. Adding pressure (heat) will melt the solid into a liquid. Eventually the liquid will evaporate into a gas.
