What’s one of the best first questions to ask a PNM when she walks in?
There's not just one correct answer!!! It should be something to make the pnm open up/be comfortable answering & something to keep the convo going for you both
What’s our philanthropy?
Ronald McDonald House Charities
What should you NOT do when a conversation gets quiet?
Panic or say “sooo yeah…” awkwardly. Redirect the conversation instead!!
If a PNM brings up partying or drinking, how do you respond?
Say it is a personal preference for members! Redirect politely to something values-based or related to sisterhood.
Give a compliment you could naturally say during recruitment!
"Oh I love your shoes," is something I was saying in my sleep after recruitment.. it was my go-to
Without asking her major straight-up (they hear this 50,000x through the week) how could you word it to get her talking about her studies/school?
“What’s something you’re really passionate about or love learning about?” then follow up with “Ooh, what do you want to do with that?” or “What made you choose it?”
What does “We Live for Each Other” mean?
Open-ended question! What does it mean to YOU!
What should you do if you’re not vibing with a PNM?
Stay kind, stay positive, do not show your true thoughts, & make. her. feel. just. as. special. as. your. best. friend!
What should you do if a PNM gets emotional?
Be kind, listen, and affirm her feelings!! Madelyn and I will be watching for things like this and she will step in if needed- just don't panic (I'm not good with emotions either but don't panic even if it's just that you have to rub her arm and say it's okay)
Give me your go-to convo starter for a PNM who looks quiet!
Slay slay slay
What should you ask if the PNM seems nervous?
Try to steer her to make her feel safe & seen, like with "What’s been the highlight of your week-big or small?" or "If you could be doing anything right now, beach, movie night, concert, or nap what would it be?"
Or if she verbally says how nervous she is, "I remember how nerve-wracking this can feel! Do you want to take a breath with me first or dive in with something fun like your go-to sweet treat?"
What’s something unique about our sisterhood events?
No right answer! They are all so fun - but be specific in your response!
How do you show active listening during recruitment convos?
DO make eye contact, nod, and respond with affirming comments like “That’s awesome!” or “I'd love to hear more about that!"
Don't lose eye contact, look around the room, face another direction, etc.
What if she says she’s unsure about Greek life?
Ask what she’s unsure about and offer a personal perspective! Just something to show the positive of Greek life & ADPi duh ;)
How would you describe our chapter in 3 words? (besides first, finest, forever hehe)
loyal. strong. kind. devoted. supportive. grounded. genuine. connected. fun. REAL. loving. honest. open. etc.!
What’s something unexpected you can ask to help her open up?
Not just 1 correct answer!! Some examples could be: “If you could plan your dream weekend, what would it look like?” or "What was your dream job when you were 10?"
What makes our new member experience special?
Open-ended question! Think back to your time as an Alpha, how loved you felt, how accepted you felt, what made you feel that way, or even something specific you all did together!
AND new members are considered alphas, not pledges. #nohazing
If the PNM talks nonstop and dominates the conversation, how do you redirect it?
"I love how passionate you are about that, it’s so fun to hear!".. redirect it to something you want to ask bouncing off of that or maybe even "That reminds me of something we do in our chapter.."
Don't zone out or act like you do not care!
What should you do if you run out of questions?
Loop back to something in the conversation previously & of course don't panic or show your brain fart. For example, "You mentioned you love hiking, do you have a favorite spot or memory from a trip?" or something on the spot like “If you had the perfect Saturday, what would it look like?”
You have 8 seconds, hype up our sisterhood!
What’s a great way to wrap up a convo that feels meaningful?
You wrap up every conversation making every pnm feel loved & seen - no matter who she is! Compliment her, thank her for talking, and make her feel excited and want to come back
What is one way our chapter supports sisters outside of any events?
We check in on each other, celebrate small wins, show up to non-ADPi things, and we are friends beyond just chapter commitments
Should you bring up your personal frustrations about recruitment, even as a joke?
NAR! You want to keep the energy positive and uplifting, venting creates a bad vibe even if you are trying to bond with them or seem chill to them. If that is the direction the PNM is going we want to redirect that conversation to something more positive!
If the PNM is focusing/talking about another chapter a lot, how should you handle that?
Refocus her to ADPi!!
Some examples: "Based on what you’ve said, I think you’d really vibe with some of the things we do here like our blah blah blah.." OR "You mentioned [other chapter] does [blah blah], what kinds of things are most important to you when choosing a sisterhood?" OR "That’s awesome that you’ve had a great connection there, that’s what recruitment’s all about! I’d love to share what makes our sisterhood special too like..."
Play a mini convo where someone’s a PNM & you are YOU!
