What is a Dutch oven?

A Dutch oven is a heavy iron or aluminum pot that's perfect for baking bread, cobblers, and pies as well as cooking stews and beans. In fact, anything that is cooked in a household oven can be cooked in a Dutch oven. Charcoal goes on the bottom and put on top of the lid.

Eating together makes everyone feel included. Eating together as a patrol helps create a supportive and connected group. It makes the camping experience more enjoyable and helps Scouts learn the value of teamwork.

What is the difference between a food intolerance and food allergy?

Food intolerance does not involve the immune system, but they can still cause serious symptoms. 

Food allergies happen when the body immune system thinks a harmless food protein is a threat and attacks it.

Why are camp stoves useful when camping?

Cooking on a camp stove is much like cooking on any stovetop. It's easy to regulate heat so food cooks at the right speed and doesn't burn. They leave no marks on land which is important with lead no trace and comes with two burners for fast and easy cooking like at home.

You may use a fire when cooking as long as the weather is not to dry, you aren't around plant life (trees) so you don't start a forest fire, and the place you are camping says not to.

What is the difference between a sell-by date and a use-by date?

A sell-by date is the last date the food should be offered for sale.

A use-by date is the last date on which the food manufacture will guarantee the food's quality.

Foil packet cooking is when you use aluminum to wrap around the desired food you want to cook over a bonfire.

Second Class 2d: Explain when it is appropriate to use a lightweight stove and when it is appropriate to use a propane stove

Propane stoves have many advantages, easy to use, gas can't spill, adjustable flame, cheap, and easy to find. They also have disadvantages- may not work in high altitude, not a good choice if bad weather is appearing, heavy and bulky.

Lightweight stoves are good to use when backpacking and you need to carry it everywhere with you while walking on a trail.

* Stand back more when cooking with grease or butter as they can splatter and burn you

* Keep hands and face away from steaming pots when lids are taken off of pot. Let the stream dissipate before looking inside your pot.
