What is Gulick, Luther Halsey,
an American physical education teacher, encouraged James Naismith to originate the game of basketball. In 1910, Gulick helped found the Boy Scouts of America and, with his wife, Charlotte Vetter Gulick, organized the Camp Fire Girls (now called Camp Fire USA). He also established physical training at the International YMCA Training School (now Springfield College) and reorganized physical education in the New York schools. Gulick was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Dec. 4, 1865. He died on Aug. 13, 1918.
