If a client experiences possible symptoms of COVID-19, separate the sick client from the other clients to the extent possible. One option could be to designate an area to triage suspected and known positive cases.

How COVID-19 Spreads

COVID-19 is thought to spread mainly through close contact from person to person, including between people who are physically near each other (within about 6 feet). People who are infected but do not show symptoms can also spread the virus to others.

What is the difference between Influenza (Flu) and COVID-19?

Influenza (Flu) and COVID-19 are both contagious respiratory illnesses, but they are caused by different viruses. COVID-19 is caused by infection with a new coronavirus (called SARS-CoV-2), and flu is caused by infection with influenza viruses.

Does vitamin D protect against COVID-19?

  • Wear a mask to protect yourself and others and stop the spread of COVID-19.
  • Stay at least 6 feet (about 2 arm lengths) from others who don’t live with you.
  • Avoid crowds. The more people you are in contact with, the more likely you are to be exposed to COVID-19.

What to do if you have pets

  • Keep cats indoors when possible and do not let them roam freely outside.
  • Pets or other animals should not be allowed to roam freely around the facility, and cats should be kept indoors.
  • Avoid public places where a large number of people gather.
  • Do not put a mask on pets. Masks could harm your pet.

How should we respond if families are not cooperative with our infection control recommendations?

Fully explain the risk in advance of not cooperating with their infection control recommendations. If families do not cooperate, it is the facility’s decision to deny or allow a visit if a denied visit could have potentially negative consequences on the client.

What causes COVID-19?

COVID-19 is a disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 that can trigger what doctors call a respiratory tract infection. It can affect your upper respiratory tract (sinuses, nose, and throat) or lower respiratory tract (windpipe and lungs).
