What is considered life threatening bleeding?

  • Soaked Clothing/Bandages: Clothing entirely soaked with blood.
  • Uncontrolled Flow: Bleeding that does not stop with direct pressure.
  • Significant Volume: A loss of more than 30-40% of blood volume, or roughly 2 liters, which leads to hypovolemic shock.

What do you do for a nosebleed?

  • Sit and Lean Forward: Keep your head tilted forward to avoid swallowing blood, which can cause vomiting.
  • Pinch the Nose: Use your thumb and index finger to firmly pinch the soft tissue part of the nose, directly against the hard bony ridge.
  • Maintain Pressure: Hold the pinch continuously for at least 10–15 minutes. Use a timer and do not release early to check the bleeding.
  • Apply Cold: Place an ice pack or cold cloth over the bridge of the nose to help constrict blood vessels.
  • Breathe Through the Mouth: Breathe through your mouth while the nose is pinched.
