God created us freely for our good to be happy (to know and love Him). Men rejected God and by sin are moving from bad to worse into non-being (sin is a privation of who we are and are created to be, good and fully alive). We cannot just repent because not only have we sinned but we have lost sanctifying grace and our nature has been corrupted.
Magic Wand- it would go against God’s Word and justice to just erase our sin and get rid of the penalty of death.
Lack of Power- it would be unfitting for God who is all powerful and good to allow mankind to fall into ruin and not be able to know and love Him (our end and happiness).
What is God to do??? Only the One who created us could restore us. Therefore, God became man to pay the debt of sin, defeat death and make us a new creation in Him. This extreme act gift of love must now be received.
