Plot 2 known points and draw a line connecting both of them and having said line go past the second point. Grab protractor and aline it with the first point and the middle of the protractor. Make sure the line is long enough to reach the outer square of the of the protractor and whichever number intersects with your line up to 360 degrees is your azimuth.

While using dead reckoning you come up to a lake with. You are in a group of 3. Without loosing your azimuth, how do you go around said lake?

Keep one person at the start of the lake with your current azimuth. Get a azimuth 90 degrees to your left and travel up to however many meters to reach past the edge of the lake. Face 90 degrees to the right and shoot/ follow the same azimuth you had before untill you pass said lake. Then face 90 degrees to the right and travel THE SAME AMOUNT OF METERS YOU TRAVELDED INITIALY. Then align yourself with the point person you kept behind and reshoot your initial azimuth.
