When a child arrives, they are marked present at their time of arrival and the correct time is entered into Child Plus. When the child leaves for the day, the out time is changed to mirror the time physically leaving your classroom.

All state level team members will establish a schedule where all classrooms will be monitored for active supervision at least two times per year. Each state team member will participate in monitoring. State team members will spend adequate time to observe either arrival or departure, classroom and playground, including transitions to/from the playground

Requests must be put in 2 weeks in advance, in Criterion. If you don't have leave time, an email must be sent to your supervisor and CC the other supervisor. If it is less than 2 weeks, a conversation must be had with your supervisor prior to a request being put in Criterion.

What does weather permitting mean?

is defined as every day, unless there is active precipitation, extremely hot or cold conditions, or public service announcements that advise people to stay indoors due to weather conditions that could be hazardous. The Division allows child care operators to use their best judgment when deciding to take children outdoors in order to make sure children remain safe.

What does entrapment mean regarding to the playground?

Entrapment is considered any opening greater than 3 ½ inches but less than 9 inches that would allow a child’s body to pass through but could trap a child’s head. Entrapment is a situation where a child's body part becomes stuck or trapped in an opening or gap in the playground equipment, potentially leading to injury

What is the proper procedure for a bathroom transition in relation to proper sanitation procedures?

Children use the bathroom, wash their hands for at least 20 seconds (following proper handwashing procedure), get a paper towel and throw it away. Once all children are finished, one teacher will be engaging children in a transition activity while the other teacher is using the sanitizing the stalls and sinks. The teacher will also sweep the bathroom. Once that teacher is finished, they will wash their hands and then switch places with the other teacher who will then wash their hands. 

Teachers will then conduct Active Supervision procedures before the classroom moves away from the bathroom.

What should take place on the 3rd day of a consecutive unexcused absence without parent notification?

1. Case Management

2. Home Visit

3. If parent is unreachable at home visit, leave an attendance letter at the home. The letter will direct the parents to resume their child’s attendance or to contact their FSS or DS within seven (7) calendar days from the date of the letter. A copy of the letter must be placed in the appropriate section of the Child’s File. 

4. If regular attendance is not resumed, within the time limit, the FSS and/or DS will obtain state level approval to withdraw. The child will be identified as dropped in ChildPlus and the slot will be considered an enrollment vacancy.

How is active play defined?

Active play should always be happening on the playground with active supervision. Teachers should be engaging the children in active play such as playing organized games, throwing and catching balls with children, etc. Teachers should not be sitting down on the playground or have their backs to the children.
