If you see another student vandalize equipment, what should you do?
Immediately report this to the teacher.

I'm a comic genius, and I like to call people whatever I feel like calling them. It is hysterical! My friends love it. I'm good, right?
Nope! At HUM, you are expected to address everyone with respect, and use their preferred name. Your teachers are not name "Miss" or "Mister." Learn their names and use them as a sign of respect. If you forget someone's name, just ask.
100
What am I expected to bring to every class?
Depending on the CTE class you take, you will need: a notebook, pencils and paper, a USB memory stick to backup your work and whatever else your teacher requires.
100
My phone battery is low. Can I charge it during class?
You will need to clear this with your teacher first. We are not BestBuy, so please don't expect us to have charging cables for you. DO NOT under any circumstances plug your personal device into one of our computers.
100
I'm late for class. What do I do?
You'll need a late pass and you'll need to sign the late log when you come in.
200
What do I do with handouts and other paper documents?
All papers must be stored in your folder or taken home in your binder. All loose paper will be thrown away at the end of class?
200
My conversation with my friends is MUCH more important and interesting than this boring class. I'm just going to keep talking to them and I'll finish whenever I'm ready.
Talking in class is disrespectful to the teacher as well as your fellow students. While we understand how exciting things can get at HUM, we need you to have self-control at all times. If you show this disrespect, expect an automatic 10 points deducted, a note in your file and a call home that very day!

Things happen. I need to turn my work in past the deadline. That happens all the time, so that should be fine, right?
While things do happen, we expect your work to be delivered on time. Our grading app automatically deducts points for late work. If late work builds up, your teacher will ask you to work with them after school during office hours to complete your assignments. Remember, teachers are the same people who will be writing your college recommendation letters!
200
What do I need to do at the end of class in order to exit the room?
You will need to fill out an exit ticket and hand it to the teacher on the way out. It will remind you to log out of your account, save your work, and clean up your workspace for the next student.
200
I need to go to the bathroom. NOW. What do I do?
Your teacher will give you a bathroom pass. You may only use the bathroom after the first ten minutes of class, and before the last ten minutes of class. Emergencies are exceptions. Bathrooms are closed during second period.
300
How do you leave a work station at the end of class?
Chairs pushed in, headphones stowed, screens wiped down. Remove any scratch paper.
300
Someone just insulted me. I can't let this go. How do I handle it?
We've got your back. We have a zero-tolerance policy for bullying in our classrooms. Classroom bullying or fighting WILL result in a call home, a lowered daily grade, your name reported to a school dean or AP and could lead to serious disciplinary action. Think before you speak!
300
I'm so very lucky to have smart friends. Copying their work makes my life so easy. I will get them back in other ways. It's cool. Right?
Um, no. Our goal is to help YOU to develop your understanding and mastery. Copying other students' work fights against our effort to help you. It's also very UNETHICAL and ILLEGAL and can get you into a world of trouble. Copying work will result in referral to a dean or AP. Expect a conference with your parents. It is grounds for suspension.
300
My phone is ringing during class. I need to take this. What do I do?
First of all, your phone needs to be switched off during class. If your phone rings, or chimes, it is considered a classroom disruption. Points can be taken away for this. It can happen, but remember that class time is YOUR time for learning. We need full access to your brain...so we ask that you shut out the outside world...just for a little while. If the phone becomes an issue, it will be confiscated and returned to your parent.
300
I missed a day of class. People do that all the time, and it's no big deal. Right?
Not at HUM. We need you in every class. If you miss a class, it's YOUR responsibility to catch up. YOU and only YOU are responsible for missed work and materials covered. Arrange to meet with a teacher during office hours to catch up. You have your teacher's email, so use it!
400
I haven't had breakfast and I just want to eat a snack in my backpack. Is that cool?
Absolutely no food or drink allowed in CTE labs.
400
OMG! I just got an upsetting text. I need to respond NOW. What do I do?
Phones are generally not allowed in the classroom, but if you talk to your teacher, they may allow you to respond. If you don't ask, and you use it during class, the phone may be taken away from you and returned to your parent. Unauthorized use of phones in class = 10pt deduction.
400
I do my best work under pressure. Therefore, I like to do my assignments just a few minutes before they are due. It's my right to do my work any way I want, as long as it gets done. Right?
Yes, that's right...but teachers can totally tell. Don't expect a good grade. Most homework should take 10-20 minutes to complete. Try to develop a ROUTINE for homework, so you don't get caught in this situation. Remember, teachers are the same people who will be writing your college recommendation letters. Establish a reputation for handing everything in on time. Use the teacher office hours for help and support with this. We want you to succeed!
400
What is our phone policy?
Absolutely no phones allowed in class, unless specifically directed by your teacher for instructional purposes only. You may use your phone at lunch or during breaks, but they must be switched OFF and hidden from sight during class.
400
I gave my password to my friend so they could help with a project. It's not big deal, right?
Are you crazy?!? NEVER give your password to anyone for any reason. Period. It's not exactly easy to reset, so memorize it, or hold on to it in in a VERY, VERY SAFE PLACE. DO NOT write it in an obvious place where it can be easily found. Mean people can find it, log into your account and damage or erase your work. Protect yourself!
500
If I accidentally spill something on school equipment, what will happen?
You or your parents will need to replace it.
500
I'm really tired and I need to take a nap, RIGHT NOW. What do I do?
Come to school rested and ready to go every day. If you feel exhausted, talk to your teacher at the beginning of class to let them know what's going on. They may send you to the school nurse if you're not feeling well. Head down on desk = 20pt deduction
500
My dog at my final project...no really, I swear he did! I left it on the bus. No, actually, it was stolen. I totally had it...now it's gone. I'm off the hook for my grade, right? I mean, You DID see my work in progress and can at least give me credit for that, RIGHT??
Sorry, no. We will take extreme emergencies under consideration, but in the "real" world, a deadline is a deadline and there are real consequences. Our job is to prepare you for the real world. No work = no grade. Period. When a project or homework is missing, an email is automatically sent to your home. Please avoid this! Use your HUM Google drive and email to avoid losing stuff.
500
Somebody left a SWEET looking phone or laptop just laying around. I can easily take it, sell it and make some much-needed cash. Nobody will ever know.
Smile, you're on camera. Theft is a felony. That means you could go to jail if you are convicted of stealing. You may not even really intend on "stealing," you might think you are "borrowing" something you need for a while. You'll need to explain that to a judge, so please avoid that situation. When things are stolen, it really lowers morale. It does much more damage than you think!
500
What am I expected to be wearing?
The school uniform at all times. No hats or do-rags. Students not complying to uniform code will receive demerit points and parents will be contacted.
