They are sorted mostly by alphabet, because there are too many languages in Africa to classify into more specific families. Most other language families share more traits than just their alphabet.

The Indo-Iranian languages had so much more diversity, and there were lots of small languages but also languages that were apparently very common, yet we hadn't heard of many of them.

How can being a multilingual country be dividing? How can it be peaceful?
Having multiple languages in a single country creates a problem of what language will be the official language. Even if the country doesn't designate an official language, they still need to decide what language the laws will be written in. However, it can be peaceful if the mindset of the people is not on representing their language, but respecting others as well.
