What is pay it back? Direct subsidized loans can be distributed to students in good academic standing to help cover expenses, but these loans do need to be repaid. Payments, with low interest, are expected 6 months after the student stops attending college classes regularly.

What is keep it? (Kind of). The NYS Excelsior Scholarship is designed for students whose Expected Family Contribution (EFC) is too high to qualify for other forms of aid. In most cases, it does not need to be repaid. However, after they stop receiving benefits, recipients are required to live and work in New York State for the same number of years they received the scholarship.
The GPA students must maintain to retain their financial aid package and stay in good standing at the college.
What is 2.0? This is equivalent to a letter grade of C.
