National Atlantic Treaty Organization. A military alliance of major western powers (US, UK, France, etc.) Ukraine joining it would automatically pit all these NATO countries against Russia in this war.

It is how the US elections work. Each state has a certain amount of votes. State citizens cast vote. For most states, if 51% of votes go to one candidates and 49% go to another, then ALL electoral votes in the state go to the candidate that won 51%.

Many illegal guns in the US. Argument of if guns kill people or if people kill people. Random acts of violence trigger calls to action. Not much changes law-wise.

Land and resources. It is the breadbasket up Europe (supplies a lot of food). To regain land lost from the Soviet Union days. Putin sees Ukrainians as being "Little Russians." Does not want Ukraine to join NATO.

Why has this conflict between Israel and Palestine come about?
Jews wanted to create a state for Jews only, known as Zionism. They were given permission by Britain to occupy Palestinian land around the holy city of Jerusalem. Palestinians were kicked out of their homelands, and away from Jerusalem, which is also a holy city to them. Since then there has been near constant fighting for land they each think is theirs.
