Staff may never go anywhere alone with one camper. Never find yourself in a situation where you would be alone in a room with one camper. 

What is the Rule of Three?

During an evening program, I have a group of campers that want to run and a group of campers that want to walk. What should I do?

You and your co-counselor may divide the cabin into two groups as long as you remain in rule of three and have good supervision.

One is a period that you are not working but must remain on camp property, while the other is a period of time that you are not working and may SIGN OUT of camp. 

What is a break versus time off?

Bob Ditter gave us his "Top 10 Tips for working with Today's Campers". Name five of them. 

1. Get to know each one of your campers.
2. Get into routines right away.
3. Keep your directions simple.
4. Get on their train before you try to get them on yours.
5. The human brain can't hold a negative
6. Sarcasm has no place at camp!
7. Drop the rope!
8. Try using "triple play" with campers who are having a hard time fitting in.
9. Teach your campers how to share and have gratitude.
10. You and your co-counselors should "tag team" your campers.

This activity period is optional for campers. If your camper chooses to participate in or asks if they can do an activity, it is your responsibility to help that camper.

The line for the camp store is really long but I am about to start my shift life guarding. What should I do?

If you are life guarding, going to bible study, or taking snacks to another team member, you may knock on the side door and fill out the staff snack sign out sheet. If these situations do not apply to you, please wait in line with the campers.

During an evening activity my cabin gets really competitive and upset when they do not win. What should I do?

Remember that the games are for the campers not the staff. Go with the flow. There are plenty of opportunities for cabins to "win" things at camp.

To be considered on time and ready for our Sunday staff meeting, you must have these things.

There are 10 strategies for managing camper behavior. Name four of them. 

1. Reinforce desired behavior

2. Clearly state privileges as well as rules
3. Tolerate some unacceptable behavior
4. Use non-verbal cues
5. Consider redirection or change of activity
6. Clarify consequences of undesired behavior
7. Clarify benefits of desired behavior
8. Remove disruptive camper from situation
9. If in doubt, seek help!
10. Remember that every child is God's child

During rec time I notice that a camper is alone, upset, or acting out but they are not in my cabin. What should I do?

Talk with them and check in. All campers are a part of the Wesley Woods community just like all staff are.

Before and after every activity we will come to the campfire circle. It is important to arrive on time so that we can efficiently send campers to activities. These have a special name, what is it?  

What are splits? 

Staff leading an activity need to stay at the campfire circle until the COD dismisses you. Staff not leading an activity who are on break need to stay at the campfire circle until all your campers are in the correct class with the correct equipment and clothing.

During rec time, group games, and activities, staff should count their kids at the begining, middle, and end. Staff should also have a "360 view" of camp at all times. These are examples of this part of camp safety.
