How are peripheral blood stem cells collected?

Peripheral blood stem cells are collected through a process called apheresis, where stem cells are separated from the circulating blood using a machine. Donors receive injections of a medication called "granulocyte colony-stimulating factor" (G-CSF) to increase stem cell production before donation.
