This is one of the most common injuries of early childhood. It is another term for a partially dislocated elbow joint. It is also affectionately called a “pulled elbow” due to the way this injury occurs in children between one and four years of age. Why does it happen in younger children? At young ages, the ligaments or bands that hold bones together are loose and not fully formed, so bones can slip out of those bands, which become tighter around the bone with age and prevent less slippage. What causes this type of injury? This can occur as the elbow bone slips outside of its ligaments. This can happen when you pull a child up by their hands or wrists rather than under their armpits, swing a toddler by their arms or wrists, or jerk a child’s arm suddenly while walking to pull them back from traffic. Be aware if a child has this and use caution when redirecting the child, using the other arm. x.html#ixzz2bG9ZMKm3

While the infected person sleeps, thousands of eggs are layed in the folds of skin that surround this particular part of body. Often children experience the area to be very itchy, can be very restless with sleep and experience nightmares. When you scratch the itchy area, the eggs cling to your fingers and get under the fingernails. The eggs then get transferred to other surfaces, such as toys or bedclothes. The eggs can also be transferred from contaminated fingers to food, liquids, bed linens, clothes or other people. Eggs can survive for two to three weeks on surfaces. You can become infected with pinworms if you consume contaminated food or drink or if you touch a contaminated surface and then touch your mouth.
